SPRING. A WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR WHEN WARM SUN RAYS AND GREENERY COVER THE COZY FOREST PARK IN WHICH THE KHMELNIK SANATORIUM DROWNS. IT WAS ON SUCH DAYS THAT TRADE UNION HEALTH WAS OPENED ON MAY 19, 1961

1958

The first developments (from April 18, 1958) began Omelchenko Andrei Illarionovich. It was not easy without electricity – only with a diesel installation, no access roads, lack of water, heating, housing and cooking facilities for construction workers. But the belief that they were doing something that was crucial helped us to work and to do better.

1959

On September 9, 1959, V. Eremin became the chief doctor of the spa polyclinic.

1960

Almost a year later, on October 16, 1960, Deda Serafim Stepanovich took over the management of the institution.

1961

The medical base continues its active development and already on April 4, 1961 (in accordance with the order of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Republican Council of Trade Unions, protocol 22) boarding house with the resort polyclinic “Khmelnik” acquires the status of a sanatorium. The beginning of operation of the sanatorium “Khmelnik” is connected with the name of Trachuk Bronislav Timofeevich, who headed the institution from February 1 to November 17, 1961. On November 17, 1961 for the next 12 years the baton of the leadership “Khmelnik” is taken by 42-year-old Movchan Stepan Prokofievich. Years of work Stepan Prokopovich distinguished the active development of the health resort – the construction of dormitories 6 and 3, a dining room with a club, the study of the therapeutic properties of radon water and the holding of scientific conferences on this topic, the implementation of various medical methods. At the same time, special attention is paid to dietary nutrition and patient care culture. In a short time, the sanatorium “Khmelnik” becomes known not only in Ukraine, but also abroad.

1973

With the arrival in leadership, in August 1973, the Honored Physician of Ukraine Vladimir Mitrofanovich Cherny, the future, which his predecessor dreamed of, began to be realized. Under his leadership, a modest sanatorium of the trade unions turned into a powerful health center of the USSR with a 1000-th bed fund. Cardiac and neurological departments have been opened. A treatment and diagnostic unit with a capacity of 1,500 visits per shift, a cafeteria with 1,000 seats, a palace of culture with 720 seats has been put into operation, and construction of staff housing has begun.

1983

From July 1983 to January 1992 the sanatorium «Khmelnik» is headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Honored Doctor of Ukraine Gunko Petr Markovich, who continued the development of the spa infrastructure, strengthening the medical and diagnostic base of the health resort, development of new radon water wells, employee housing construction. In the early 90s the new management of «Khmelnik» in the person of Candidate of Medical Sciences, Honored Doctor of Ukraine Peter Vasilyevich Dumin faced the problem of reorganization of the sanatorium.

1992

During the years of Petr Vasilyevich’s work (from 1992 to August 2009) reconstruction of buildings without amenities in the rooms with improved conditions, equipment of the latest medical equipment. The health resort was reorganized into a multidisciplinary, a department of non-traditional medicine was created, as well as rehabilitation departments – for patients after a stroke and diabetes. At the initiative of Peter Vasilyevich, the Church of Peter and Paul was built.

2000

In August 2000 the sanatorium was granted the status of clinical. «Khmelnik» is the basis for the training of students of Vinnytsa Medical University.

Today, the trade union sanatorium «Khmelnik» is a powerful treatment and rehabilitation center for 700 places, in which annually heal about 9 thousand people. Now the head of the sanatorium is Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor, Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology Olexander Galachenko, who has recently adopted the traditions of the health resort, introducing innovative medical technologies, energy-saving equipment, increasing the flexibility of patient service.
